THE ART TEAM
MEET THE TEAM
Sally has worked individually on shoots, shows and events for over thirty years including styling the international trend collections for L’Oreal Professional which appeared in in top titles such as Vogue UK and Vogue Italia. As Creative Director of the salon group, Sally seeks opportunities for the team across the industry, from education to photographic work. Acting as a mentor to the team, Sally’s experience and is invaluable, she works on all shoots and is particularly talented at forecasting trends.
Although a vital leader of the team, Sally prefers to ‘steer the ship’ and let the team run with their own ideas, there are three L’Oreal Colour Specialists and four ID Artists in the team and Sally encourages each member to audition for these opportunities which see them work around Europe whilst enjoying brilliant training. Sally has built a fantastic relationship with L’Oreal Professional and the salon group is proud to be part of the L’Oréal Professionnel Portfolio, an exclusive group of top British hairdressers who have been recognised for their creativity and expertise.
Angel started styling backstage while still in school and nine years on is still as passionate as her very first show. After training at Sally Montague Hair group Angel moved to London to continue her education at The Sassoon Academy in Knightsbridge. Dividing her week between London and Derbyshire her session portfolio includes an abundance of advertising campaigns, fashion shows, celebrity styling and editorial work.
In 2012 Angel became UK Creative Ambassador for Cloud Nine and started teaching her very own course for L’Oreal Professional. From being the youngest stylist to reach the Grand Final of the L’Oreal Colour Trophy and winning the coveted IT GIRL and Fashionista titles at the Creative head IT Awards, Angel has proved her talent with a host of accolades in a just a few years. Recently Angel has talked trends in Dubai for Cloud Nine, styled the stars at Cannes Film Festival, worked with Jude Law on the ‘Gentlemens Wager’ advert for Johnnie Walker and continues to write a popular daily blog on all things hair.
I completed the L’Oréal Professionnel Colour Specialist degree before winning a place on the Colour ID Artist Team and becoming the Art Team Colour Specialist, since then I have finalised in both the L’Oréal Colour Trophy and Men’s Image Award twice. During my time in the Art Team I have worked on many backstage shows, including Fashion Fringe, the Central Saint Martins BA and MA shows as well as travelling to Paris with Sally to assist her on the L’Oréal Professionnel International Trend Collections.
I was recently awarded second place in the Shu Uemura Muse Award. My entry photograph and mood board won me one of just four coveted places on a fantastic shoot at Photolink Studios in Manchester to create an iconic look, before receiving runner up from among hundreds of entries across the UK. Inspiration wise, I look for unusual colours in landscapes, art and architecture before developing fashion-forward colour techniques to share with my team as Sadler Gate salon manager.
As a L’Oréal Colour Specialist and an ID Artist, I have a wide range of technical skills and feel my strengths lie in colour, men’s hairdressing and shorter styles. I gain inspiration from our monthly Art Team meetings, where we exchange ideas for upcoming shoots and events. I look to fashion, art and culture for creative references, which I collate into mood boards using Pinterest to share with the group. Each member of the Art Team maintains different skills from Colour Specialists to Extensionists and Session Styling.
I recently took part in the L’Oréal Professionnel Catwalk Showcase in Dublin. The event made me push both my hairdressing and presenting skills and I found it really inspiring to see what hairdressers from other salons are working on out of the salon environment. Earlier this year I reached the grand final of the L’Oréal Colour Trophy at The Grosvenor in London. It was a truly inspiring event to be part of and the rose-gold hue I created for my model has proved incredibly popular.
I’ve been a Master Stylist at the Duffield salon since it opened in September 2012. I’ve worked on a host of shoots and shows including Fashion in Motion at the V&A, London Fashion Week and magazine editorials. One of my proudest achievements was winning a place on the L’Oréal Professional ID Artist Team. In the last two years we have travelled across the UK and Europe showcasing our styling skills to other hairdressers; it’s great to work with like-minded stylists and bounce ideas off one another.
Winning the L’Oréal Colour Trophy Regional Final for the last two years running has been a high point. I would say my passion lies with dressing long hair, whether it’s for a weekly blow-dry client in Duffield or frantically pinning hair backstage at Fashion Week.
I’m an experienced stylist and have been part of the hairdressing industry for more than ten years, moving back from London to Derby four years ago to become a stylist at Ashbourne. As a Colour Specialist, I had the chance to audition for the prestigious two-year L’Oréal Professionnel Colour ID Artist programme and after a gruelling audition process, I won a place on the team. It’s an amazing opportunity, which has seen me present professional models on stage, in front of huge audiences, all over the UK.
As a colourist on the team, I take inspiration from tones, shapes and styles in catwalk collections, which I translate into techniques for the salon. I think it’s important for all hairdressers to continually push their skills and I regularly attend workshops in London with Carolyn Newman, Colour Director at Charles Worthington, who is widely recognised as one of the best in the business. Going forward, I would like to continue to build my knowledge and offer the excellent service that Sally Montague Hair Group is renowned for.
